Town of Mount Pleasant Municipal Court

The Town of Mount Pleasant Municipal Court serves the public with integrity, professionalism, and respect. The court adheres to South Carolina State Code of Laws and policies set by the South Carolina Court Administration. It upholds and protects the rights and liberties of all individuals who appear before it. The court adjudicates misdemeanor state violations and municipal codes arising within town limits.

The Clerk of Court's Office schedules jury trials, processes warrants, and conducts all transactions relating to the court docket. Court sessions are scheduled Monday through Friday. The court is part of the Ninth Judicial Circuit and is a court not of record under South Carolina law. Appeals from Mount Pleasant Municipal Court go to the Court of Common Pleas for Charleston County, where the case is heard fresh as a trial de novo.

Mount Pleasant Court Docket Case Types

The Mount Pleasant Municipal Court docket covers cases arising within town limits only. Cases outside the town limits go to the Charleston County magistrate court or General Sessions Court. The court handles minor criminal matters, traffic violations, and city ordinance violations. Maximum penalties are a $500 fine and/or 30 days of imprisonment.
